Portable Storage Containers in Denver County

Denver is an old city by Colorado standards, and its housing stock shows it. Curtis Park, Baker, Capitol Hill, the Highlands, Park Hill, Wash Park, Montclair — Victorians, Denver Squares, brick bungalows and Tudors, most of them being carefully brought up to date rather than torn down.

That kind of work is where a container earns its keep. A restoration means emptying rooms for weeks or months, and a unit on the property beats paying for a storage unit across town and hiring a truck twice.

Narrow streets, alleys, and where the unit actually goes

Central Denver was laid out long before anyone was parking a container on it. Streets are narrow, a lot of these homes have alley access and a detached garage rather than a wide driveway, and the diagonal grid downtown catches out drivers who did not grow up here.

None of that is a problem — it just means placement is worth a two-minute conversation before delivery day rather than a surprise when the truck arrives. Send us a photo of the frontage if you are unsure.

If it goes in the street, Denver wants a permit

Worth knowing before you plan anything: Denver requires a right-of-way permit from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure for a container placed on a city street, sidewalk or alley — including directly in front of your own house.

On your own driveway or private property, no permit is needed. If your placement does need one, apply several business days ahead; DOTI publishes the current requirements and fees. We will tell you honestly which situation you are in when we look at the address.

A real person schedules your delivery

The national container companies run Denver through a call centre and an online form. You get a slot, not a conversation.

We are small enough that you can talk to someone who will actually be involved in your delivery — ask whether your street works, move a date, get a straight answer about placement. For a job in a tight historic neighbourhood, that is worth more than a slicker booking page.

What people use a container for in Denver

Denver's housing stock decides most of what we deliver here. Four jobs account for nearly all of it.

Restorations of older homes. A Denver Square in Park Hill or a bungalow in Berkeley being taken back to the studs means every room is emptied for weeks. A locked steel container on the property keeps the furniture dry, close and out of the crew's way.

Pop-tops and additions. Adding a second story to a bungalow in Sloan's Lake or Wash Park means the upstairs contents come out for the duration. A container in the driveway or the alley takes them.

Moves inside the city. Capitol Hill to the Highlands, Baker to Platt Park. Short distances, tight streets and a moving-truck rental that has to be back the same day. Loading a container over a week at your own pace and having us move it across town is the calmer version.

Staging for sale. Agents in Denver's older neighborhoods routinely ask sellers to clear half the furniture before photos. A container takes it all and brings it back after closing, or goes straight to the new address.

Delivery day in Denver

We come in from our Brighton yard with the container on our own truck. Most Denver deliveries are within our flat move-fee radius from Brighton, so the distance is not a line on your quote. We set the unit level where you point, and we need a spot roughly a car and a half long with a clear overhead approach — power drops, low branches and porch roofs are the usual limits on an older lot.

Many central Denver homes have alley access and a detached garage rather than a wide front driveway. An alley apron or a parking pad off the alley often works well. A photo of the frontage and the alley tells us which.

If the container has to go in the street, Denver requires a right-of-way permit from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure; on your own driveway or private property none is needed. If neither works, we store the loaded unit at our gated yard in Brighton and bring it back when you are ready. The unit is month to month, so a restoration that runs long is not a problem.

Before you lock it, look inside. A Denver family finished unloading and found that their cat had slipped into the container while they were loading and been shut in. It’s the saddest call we’ve had. Pets are curious and containers are dark and interesting. Before you close and lock the doors, every time, walk the length of the unit and check.

Central and north: Capitol Hill, Uptown, Five Points, Curtis Park, the Highlands, Berkeley, Sunnyside and Sloan's Lake. Alleys, narrow streets and the most permit questions.

East: Park Hill, Montclair, Hilltop, Mayfair, Lowry, Central Park and Green Valley Ranch, from old brick to brand new.

South and central: Wash Park, Platt Park, Baker, University, Virginia Village and Bear Valley, with plenty of pop-tops and full renovations.

Most of the city sits inside our flat move-fee radius from Brighton. See our Denver city page for more.

Denver storage FAQ

How long does delivery to Denver take from your yard?

Brighton to central Denver is usually about half an hour outside rush hour. We schedule Denver deliveries a few days out; call 720-674-8777 with the address and we will give you the next slot.

Is there an extra charge for delivering into the city?

Denver addresses within 30 miles of our Brighton yard are one flat move fee. Beyond that radius the fee is by the mile. The monthly rate on the container is the same everywhere we serve.

Can the container go in the alley behind my house?

Often, yes, if the alley apron or parking pad is on your property and there is room for our truck to place it. If the unit would sit in the public alley itself, that counts as right-of-way and needs a DOTI permit.

What happens if my restoration runs longer than planned?

Nothing you need to do. The container is month to month with no long-term contract, so it stays until you tell us to collect it.

Can you store the container while I am between houses?

Yes. We take the loaded unit to our gated yard in Brighton and hold it for as long as you need. You pay the move fees in and out and the monthly rate; the yard itself costs nothing extra.

What size container do you deliver in Denver?

One size: an 8-by-16-foot welded steel container, roughly three to four rooms. On a tight lot the single size is an advantage; it fits where a larger unit will not.

We run into Denver regularly from our Brighton yard — usually about half an hour, though the city can rewrite that at rush hour. Send us the address and what you are working on and we will come back with a real number.
