Storage Container Space Calculator
See how much fits in a Velox portable storage container before you book. Load the 3D container with your own furniture, appliances and boxes. The inside is 15 ft 5 in long, 7 ft 4 in wide and 7 ft 1 in tall, about 800 cubic feet.
Tap the things you need to move or store. They load into the container so you can see how full it gets and about what it weighs.

Start with a typical home
Or add items one at a time
This is an estimate. Sizes are typical for each item and the loader packs neatly from the back wall forward, floor to ceiling. Real loads vary with how tightly you pack and the exact size of your furniture. Weights are typical averages: a box of books weighs far more than a box of pillows.

How to use the calculator
- Pick a typical home to load a full example, or tap single items to add them one at a time.
- Watch the container fill up. The meter shows how full it is and about how much the load weighs.
- Drag the picture to turn the container. Switch between Outside and Inside, and turn the measurements on or off.
The calculator packs the way a careful person loads their own container: big furniture on the floor first, boxes stacked on top, from the back wall forward. An experienced packer can usually fit more.

How full do typical homes get?
These are the three example homes built into the calculator. Each one is a real list of furniture and boxes, loaded by the calculator.
| Home | What is in it | Result | Approx. weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio or 1 bedroom | 16 pieces of furniture and appliances, 32 boxes and totes (about 364 cubic feet) | Fits. About 61% full. | 2,100 lb |
| 2 bedroom apartment | 23 pieces of furniture and appliances, 32 boxes and totes (about 503 cubic feet) | Fits. About 84% full. | 2,650 lb |
| 3 bedroom house | 39 pieces of furniture and appliances, 87 boxes and totes (about 1049 cubic feet) | Does not all fit. About 590 of the 1049 cubic feet loads. Plan on a second container. | 3,400 lb for the part that fits |

How much fits depends on how tightly you pack, how much furniture you own and how long you have lived in the house. A lightly furnished three-bedroom home can fit in one container when it is packed tight. A full house with appliances and a garage usually takes two. Our advice is always the same: fill the first one, then order a second only if you need it.
A quick way to estimate without the calculator
Add up the cubic feet of your things from the table below. Furniture leaves gaps that boxes cannot always fill, so a mixed household load uses about 60 to 75 percent of the 800 cubic feet. That means roughly 500 to 600 cubic feet of furniture and boxes fits in one container. A load that is only boxes packs tighter than that.
Item sizes and weights used in the calculator
Sizes are width × depth × height in inches. Weights are typical averages, so your own items will vary. A box of books weighs far more than a box of pillows.

Questions people ask
How much space is inside a Velox container?
The inside is 15 ft 5 in long, 7 ft 4 in wide and 7 ft 1 in tall. That is about 800 cubic feet of loading space. The door opening is 5 ft 8 in wide and 6 ft 3 in tall.
Will a sofa fit?
Yes. A standard three-seat sofa is about 7 feet long. It can go in flat, or stand on end against a wall to save floor space. The ceiling is 7 ft 1 in, so a 7 foot sofa stands on end with about an inch to spare.
Will a king mattress fit?
Yes. A king mattress is 76 inches wide, one inch taller than the door, so tip it at an angle to carry it in. Inside, stand it on its long edge against a wall. Bag it first to keep it clean.
Will a refrigerator fit through the door?
Yes. A typical refrigerator is about 70 inches tall and 36 inches wide. The door opening is 75 inches tall and 68 inches wide, so it rolls in upright.
How many boxes fit?
With nothing else inside, the calculator fits about 200 medium moving boxes. Loaded with a home full of furniture, plan on 30 to 60 boxes, depending on how much furniture goes in.
How heavy is a loaded container?
The calculator adds up a typical weight for each item. The example homes on this page come out between 2,100 and 3,400 pounds. Most loaded Velox containers weigh about 3,000 to 4,000 pounds. Tell us before loading day about pianos, safes, machinery or stacks of tile.
What if everything does not fit?
Fill the first container, then order a second only if you need it. We can deliver more than one container to the same address.
