Short answer: PODS and Velox both rent a 16-foot portable storage container, and the two are close in size. The real differences are how much weight you can load (PODS lists 4,200 lbs for its 16-foot container; ours is rated for 7,500 lbs), how the box is built, and who you deal with: a national company, or a Utah-owned business where the phone reaches the owner.

The biggest difference: how much weight you can load
A container’s weight limit is the most your belongings can weigh in total before it is unsafe to lift and haul. It matters more than most people expect, because heavy things use up the allowance long before they fill the space.
PODS lists 4,200 lbs for its 16-foot container. Its own packing advice is to keep your heaviest items under 75% of that limit, which works out to about 3,150 lbs. Our 8×16 container is rated for 7,500 lbs.
Here is why that matters in Utah. The heaviest thing our customers load is not furniture. It is food storage: buckets of wheat, rice and beans, and cases of canned goods. A typical loaded Velox container weighs 3,000 to 4,000 lbs, which is already right around the PODS 16-foot limit.

Close in size, built differently
PODS’s largest container measures 16 × 8 × 8 feet. Ours measures 16 × 8 feet and 7 ft 7 in tall on the outside, with about 800 cubic feet of space inside. That is close enough to call them the same class of container, so decide on weight, build and service, not size.
How they are built is where they differ. PODS describes its containers as a steel frame with aluminum skin panels and a roof that lets daylight in, which makes it easy to see while you pack. Ours are all steel, with steel swing doors, and sit on a steel base frame.
No portable container is climate controlled while it sits at your house. Load everything dry, use sealed totes for long storage, and keep documents, electronics and anything irreplaceable with you. More in how to prevent mold and moisture in a storage container.
Who you talk to
With a national company you usually work through a customer care line and an online account. That works well for plenty of people, especially on a cross-country move.
One small local team handles everything: booking, where the container goes, rescheduling and pickup. The Utah line reaches the owner. Not sure where the container fits? Text a photo of your driveway and we will tell you. Need to change a date? Call or text. That is fine unless the truck is already on its way.
Our truck stays on the road, and a machine lifts the container off and sets it anywhere a truck can drive. It is not tipped or dragged like a dumpster. It takes up about one parking stall. Sloped driveway or a tight spot? Send a photo and we will look at it case by case.
How pricing works
Neither company posts one flat price, because the cost depends on the job.
What changes a Velox quote: how many containers, how long you keep them, how many times they move, whether you are outside our normal delivery area, a tricky delivery spot, and add-ons like a lock or contents coverage. We usually have a few deals running, so ask.
Three things are true of every Velox rental: no deposit, a one-month minimum, and the monthly rate does not go up after the first month.

- You are moving within Utah or along Colorado’s Front Range.
- Your load is heavy: food storage, tools, a safe, building materials.
- The container will sit on site for months during a remodel or a new-home build.
- You want one local person to call or text instead of a support queue.
- You live in Utah County and want to visit your stored belongings. Our yards are in Springville and Pleasant Grove.
Frequently asked questions
Is a Velox container the same thing as a PODS container?
Same idea, different company. People call every portable storage container a “pod,” but PODS is a brand name. Velox is a separate, locally owned Utah company.
Is Velox cheaper than PODS?
It depends on the job, so the honest answer is to get both quotes and compare the total cost from delivery to final pickup. Neither company posts a flat price. Call or text us and you will get a real number from a real person.
What is the weight limit on a PODS container compared to Velox?
PODS lists 4,200 lbs for its 16-foot container, 4,700 lbs for its 12-foot and 5,200 lbs for its 8-foot. A Velox 8×16 container is rated for 7,500 lbs.
Do you do long-distance moves?
Within Utah and along Colorado’s Front Range, yes. Across state lines, no. For that, PODS or U-Haul’s U-Box is the better fit.
How much fits in one Velox container?
Roughly a 1,500 square foot, two- to three-bedroom home, depending on how you pack and how much furniture you have. Our advice: fill one, then order a second only if you need it. See what fits in a 16 ft container.
Can you store my container at your yard?
Yes. We have gated yards in Springville and Pleasant Grove, Utah, and Brighton, Colorado. Keeping your container at our yard does not raise the monthly rate. Visits are by appointment: call or text ahead and someone will meet you, unlock it, and lock up after.
Are my belongings insured?
Not automatically, with us or anyone else. Check your homeowners or renters policy first. We also offer third-party coverage up to $20,000 for theft, fire, flood and damage in transport.
